Ingredients
Mountain herbs and roots from the Vallagarina infused into the distillery's own grappa, giving an amaro with a distinctly grappa-scented backbone.
History of the Brand
Sabina Marzadro began distilling in the Vallagarina in 1949 with her brother Attilio; the family firm is now one of Trentino's best-known grappa producers.
Its amaro follows the alpine convention of using what grows on the slopes above the distillery, but departs from it by building on grappa rather than neutral spirit.
The result belongs to the same family as Braulio and the Aosta amari, with an extra vinous, fruity edge from the pomace distillate.
It is a common after-dinner pour in Trentino and Alto Adige, often served straight from a cold cupboard rather than the freezer.
Tasting Characteristics
Pine, mint and grape pomace, with elderflower behind.
Herbal and cooling, moderate sweetness, gentian bitterness and a warm spirit character through the middle.
Resinous and dry, with mountain-pine length.
